Care for the Elderly: How the Right Nutrition Can Boost Your Mood

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 | home care | No Comments

Care for the Elderly | Right NutritionI am sure you have heard of how it is important to eat healthy and that the right diet can increase your energy levels. Now - have you actually come across three special mood boosters in food?

Especially for the elders, who can be a bit down due to sickness or simply lack of energy - yet when they get the right nutrients, they will feel much better - both physically and emotionally.

So what are the magic foods that can make them smile?

1. Walnuts

Ok, we won’t go into too much detail here on how many omega-3 fatty acids walnuts have and what other important mood-lifting neurotransmitters they contain.

In every case, they are an excellent snack just on their own, or you can sprinkle them over fresh vegetable salads or come up with other ways you can use them in kitchen - just be creative!

2. Salmon

Scientists say that vitamin D may increase the levels of serotonin which is a prerequisite for a good mood.

And what is the best source of this vitamin? Sun. Ok, but sunlight is not a food - so if you want to get more of “D”, eat more fish - and salmon is an excellent source of this vitamin.

And if you’re stuck with ideas - go to any Irish restaurant - and they will amaze you with various ways of how to serve salmon.

3. Lentils

So far we’ve spoken about omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D, but lentils are an excellent source of folate, a B vitamin that appears to be essential for mood and proper nerve function in the brain.

So do you fancy a lentil soup? And maybe you are interested in knowing that other sources of folate are green vegetables such as spinach and broccoli, liver, and beans.

So if your mood hasn’t improved just by reading this article, get up and get something good for you now - something that will lift your mood and make you feel really well.

And if you need a carer who would help you with your healthy nutrition, contact us now.

Ease the Funding of Home Care

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008 | home care | No Comments

Home Care, shouldn’t cost the earth.

All home care is individual and there are many ways to ease the financial burden, such as;

  1. HSE Home Care Support Scheme
  2. Up to 41% Income Tax Relief
  3. Family Contributions, etc.

Just 1 hour a day, can make a difference, when you call us on 1890 500 005, we will go through all the details as soon as you arrange to meet us.

More details about the HSE Home Care Support Scheme

The main priority of the Home Care Support Scheme is older people living in the community or those who are in-patients in acute hospitals at risk of admission to long term care.

Home care packages will also be available to those older people who have been admitted to long term care and who can (with support), return to the community. Packages may be offered to those already using existing core services, such as home helps, but who may need more assistance to continue to live in their community.

Home Care Support packages are also available for young chronically sick people and others who could continue to live at home provided they had adequate supports.

Lilly Breen, Client

Everyone deserves the best care!

Each person’s needs are unique, so it’s important for you to see the right personalised care from someone you can trust.

Sometimes the care that people need and want, is just more than the average family member can provide, and that’s why a friendly and professional home carer could be your answer.

What is the Process?

So how can you set up an appointment with your home carer?

  1. Call your local home care providers and arrange an appointment.
  2. At your appointment, discuss exactly how they can help you.
  3. Ask them to visit your family member at home or at hospital
  4. Agree the right home care service and how often.
  5. Make sure your family member is happy with them.

You can start enjoying your free time and peace of mind - it’s your choice when!
